Bye Laws

1. The Management Board has the authority to make or change the Bye Laws

2. The Clubhouse

The Clubhouse will be open for use by members and their guests at such times as the Management Board direct.

The hours during which intoxicating liquor may be sold are:

             Monday - Sunday 11.00am - 11.00pm

There will be a maximum of 30 minutes drinking up time after the closure of the bar

The actual hours of opening for the Office, Pro Shop, Bar and Restaurant will be posted in the Clubhouse.

Junior Members and Children under 14 years of age are not allowed in the bar unless accompanies by an adult. Junior Members over 14 are allowed into the bar to purchase and consume soft drinks.

Members of Wanstead Bowling Club who have paid an agreed subscription may use the bar and restaurant during the Bowling Season (1st May - 30th September).

Members must pay all bills for every expense they incur in the Club before leaving the premises. The staff may not open an account for any member except the Club Captain.

Smoking is not permitted in any part of the Clubhouse.

3. New Members

The acceptance of new members is provisional for twelve months, after which time their membership will be reviewed by the Management Board who have the right to refuse confirmation of membership.

4. Handicaps

All new members must submit three cards, signed and dated, before a handicap can be given. Men's handicaps can only be allocated or adjusted by the Men's Handicap Committee. New male members must play nine holes with a male member of the Management Board, or a nominated person, before a handicap is allocated. New female members must play with a member of the Ladies' Committee before obtaining a handicap.

5. Playing Times

Full members: any time when the course is available and open for play.

Midweek members: any time Monday - Friday when the course is open for play

'Ring fenced' Lady Members: any time when the course is open for play Monday-Friday and from 11.30am on Saturday and Sunday (11.00am in the winter).

6. Member Guests

Guests are restricted to the following times at weekends;

             Saturday After 12.00 noon during competition season
                             After 11.30 am when the clocks go back
             Sunday   After 10.00 am throughout the year

Members are not restricted on the number of guests they invite throughout the year but the number of times any individual guest may play the course is limited to six. Guest must then pay the full green fee for any additional rounds. Members are responsible for the dress and behaviour of their guests on and off the course.

7. Knock out Competition, Men's, Ladies and Mixed

The competitions are confined to full members (including ring-fenced ladies) only. Ladies competitions are administered by the Ladies' section, men's and mixed competitions by the General Manager.

Matches must not start before 10.00am on Club Competition days. (Ring-fenced ladies' after 11.30).

All matches must be played from the first tee.

Matches are to be played from current handicap on the day of play.

It is the duty of players to make arrangement to play their matches as early as possible. If it is not possible to arrange a date by mutual agreement the player whose name appears above that or his/her opponent must approach the opponent and offer three dates, two of which must be during different weekends for men's and mixed competitions, one weekend date of the ladies.

If players fail to approach their opponents within four days of the date fixed for finishing a round they shall be deemed to have scratched. Opponents should report such failure to the General Manager. If they fail to report they also will be deemed to have scratched. The dates fixed for completion of rounds and the finals will be strictly adhered to. A match which ends ?all square? must be played off immediately hole by hole, until one side wins a hole. Play off should start at the 1st and strokes should be given as in the initial round.

Winners must enter the result on the sheet for the event. Failure to do so will mean disqualification.

Entries must be recorded and entry fees paid prior to the stated closing date and draw being made. Failure to do so will mean disqualification.

Sweeps are voluntary. Members under 16 years of age cannot enter the sweep.

Official Club Competitions have priority on the course. Friendly matches ahead of any players in a competition should allow the competitors through.

Prize funds
All entry fees from men's competitions go into the prize fund which is administered by the General Manager.
The prize fund is used for:

             Prizes for all competitions
             Engraving of trophies
             Honours Boards
             Cards and Envelopes
             Starting sheets and files

The Ladies' prize fund is administered by the Ladies' Committee.

8. Weekend Competition Days

The first tee is reserved for members playing in the competition of the day for men or ladies, from 8.00 - 9.30am.

Official Club Competition have priority over all other games.

No games may start from the 10th tee.

Cutting in at the 6th tee is not allowed at weekends or bank holidays until after 5.00pm. Anyone cutting in at the 6th tee must immediately give way to players playing a full round.

9. Practice Areas

Field holes: Saturday & Sunday after 6.00pm and Monday to Friday after 3.00pm from the rough in front of 2nd tee and the cut area in front of the pylon on the 3rd.

Top 14: Monday to Friday only, from the rough, forward and left of the 10th and 14th fees.

The practice area between the 6th fairway and 8th green at any time.

Members practising on the course must play with no more than two balls which must be clearly marked.

When playing with two balls:

             You must not play off the competition tees
             You must not play off the fairway
             You must not play out of the bunkers
             Balls must be moved to the first cut and divots must be replaced
             Chipping and pitching onto the putting green is not allowed
             Failure to adhere to these rules will result in disciplinary action

10. Juniors

Playing times: Any time Monday to Friday. On Saturdays and Sundays junior boys with a handicap of 18 and below (20 and below for girls) may play at any time, as long as they are playing with a full member and are accompanied in the ratio of one junior to one adult. Other juniors may not play before 2.00pm in the summer and 1.00pm in the winter.

All junior competitions are played during junior playing times.

Junior boys with a 0 -9 handicap may play in all Club competitions. Junior boys with handicaps of 8 and below may play in all Club Monthly and Midweek Medal and Stableford competitions. They may also play in two four ball better ball competitions, the Brian Egan Trophy and the George Hensher Trophy with an adult member as a partner.

Junior girls holding an appropriate handicap may play in all of the Ladies' competitions.
